On Rotation: Daily Skincare Regime

I started using a good skincare line when I was probably in 8th grade. My mom always educated me about the importance of taking care of my skin, especially because we're constantly exposed to such strong UV rays. I've kept up my skin regime since, especially when I was traveling back from Hawaii to San Francisco for 6 years in college and my skin was constantly having to readjust to whatever climate I was in. I've never had really bad skin. It's always been pretty normal, except for the typical teenage outbreak and some dryness when I was living in the bay. People have always asked what products I use and how I keep my complexion so nice, and I must say it's mostly due to using good skincare for the past 15 years. Here's what I'm using now:

Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash

I use it twice a day to help unclog my pours, remove makeup, and wake up my skin!

Kate Somerville Exfolicate Gentle

I use this exfoliator twice a week in the shower, to scrub off dead skin while smoothing and soothing, and improving skin tone.

SK-II Essence

This is honestly one of the best product my skin has ever touched! I use it twice a day after cleansing, and you can immediately feel your skin absorb it. It keeps me hydrated all day without my skin drying out like it used to.

Kate Somerville DermalQuench Liquid Lift

I just started using this product a couple months ago every night after my toner, and I feel like it's definitely helped with the firmness and hydration of my skin. Looking forward to its long-term anti-wrinkle results!

Kate Somerville Quench

This is definitely the ultimate hydration serum. I have a bunch of tiny sample sizes I carry around in my bags, but it's especially good for after a long day in the sun. You instantly feel extremely hydrated and refreshed!

Kate Somerville Nourish

I use this daily moisturizer every morning before running out of the house or putting on my make up. It's not too heavy, not too light, but perfect enough to keep you moisturized and nourished throughout your entire day.

Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair

This is the last face product I put on at night before my eye cream, that helps heavily renew my skin while I sleep. Like all my other products, I always make sure to take my skin care down my neck!

Osmotics Cosmeceuticals Eye Surgery

My last step in my facial regime is my eye cream. I use it twice a day, help waking up my eyes every morning by de-puffing and reducing the appearance of dark circles.

J. Crew Boy Shirt in Classic White / Vintage Levi Denim Shorts from General Store San Francisco / Barney's NY Boots / Bracelets by David Yurman, Tiffany & Co., and A. Wattz / Rings by By Chari

In this episode of #FAFAFAF (food and fashion and fashion and food), I incorporated some style by showcasing my favorite basics and everyday wear. After an hour of some very hot yoga, I showered and threw on my favorite collared shirt by J. Crew and my go-to vintage Levi shorts. I honestly don't think I could live in somewhere like Hawaii without those two versatile pieces! I stacked on my daily jewelry combo, which is the perfect mixture of silver and gold metals.

Later Megan and I shopped around at all our favorite spots, including R. Fields and Tamashiro Market, picking up the yummiest ingredients for our Cioppino dinner night! We tweaked the recipe a bit with some changes of our own, and made a perfect seafood delight. We paired it with a Caesar salad with my favorite homemade anchovy dressing, and of course garlic bread to dip. Because it was a cool and rainy night, we ate outside on the patio, making it the icing on the cake!

Cioppino Recipe

Tomato Base:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 small carrot, chopped
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
5-10 cloves garlic, chopped
1 small serrano chile, halved
1 bunch fresh basil, chopped
1/2 bunch fresh oregano, chopped
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons black peppercorns
1 bay leaf
1/2 bottle good red wine
1 T red wine vinegar
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1 T Tabasco
2 28 oz. cans
 pureed tomatoes (San Marzano-style)
Fish Stock

Fish Stock:
1 pound fresh fish bones (we used a salmon head)
2 ribs celery, chopped
1 small carrot, chopped
1 small yellow onion, chopped
2-6 cloves garlic, mashed
1/4 bunch parsley stems
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
Shells and heads from prawns
5 cups clam juice
4 cups of water
1/2 a lemon

1 whole Dungeness crab legs and bodies
12 littleneck clams, scrubbed clean
18 black mussels, bearded and scrubbed clean
1 1/2 pounds fresh swordfish or other firm fish, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
6 large scallops

12 peeled and deveined prawns (shells reserved for stock)

First, get the fish stock going.
In a large pot, add all of the fish stock ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes. Strain, reserving the broth and and prawn heads and discarding the solids.

Meanwhile, start the tomato base.
In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat and add the carrots, onions, bell peppers, and celery, and saute until tender, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, chile, herbs, and seasonings and cook until fragrant. Add the wine, vinegar, Worcestershire, and tabasco and reduce until the liquid is almost evaporated. Add the tomatoes and all of the fish stock and prawn heads (for a stronger fish note in the soup), bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Strain through a fine strainer.

Thicken the soup (optional)
While we were straining the tomato base, we noticed that the soup was thinning out quite a bit because we were losing a lot of the tomato pulp. We decided to take some of the cooked down peppers, onions, garlic, celery, and carrots, put it in a food processor and process till very smooth. We added this back into the soup to give it a heartier consistency. After adding the "pulp", keep the tomato base on a simmer until ready to serve.

Just before serving, cook the seafood.
Bring the tomato base back up to a boil. Add the live crab and cook for 10 minutes. Then, add the clams and mussels. As the shells begin to open, drop in the cubed fish, scallops, and prawns. Remove all seafood once cooked, about 5 minutes.

Evenly distribute the seafood in bowls and ladle the hot soup over all that goodness.

Lazy Sunday's are always the best. All I want to do is throw on something easy and comfortable (actually, that's most days), and run out of the house and do whatever it is I need to do. Whether it's wearing it over my bikini, or throwing it on with a cute pair of boots, I've welcomed it in to my staples collection with open arms!

Yesterday morning my good friend and food blogger, Megan Tomino and I cooked up a delicious brunch for some of our closest friends. Megan did most of the cooking, baking up an amazing assortment of breads and curing the most beautiful looking lox I've ever seen! We had such a blast cooking up all these tasty dishes, and it's always so fun assisting Megan in the kitchen. I've learned so much about food and cooking from her, and for that I am truly grateful! Stay tuned to more #FAFAFAF (Food And Fashion And Fashion and Food) posts.

ON TREND: Non-basic belts

Brixton Dixie Hat /  Bobi Tank / Topshop Moto High Rise Ripped Jeans / Cole Haan Tillary Mule / Raen Arkin Sunglasses / Pierre Hardy Leopard Backpack

I've been really into wearing belts again lately, whether they're leather, gold, or even my favorite ribbon sash. I've noticed that non-basic belts have made a come back, which is why this sash has become my favorite. I love that I can also tie it around my hair or even my neck, which is why it has kind of become my new prized accessory.

H&M Wide Leg Jeans / Mikoh Huahine Top in Swell Lines / J. Crew Boyfriend Shirt / Janessa Leone Vincent Hat / Raen Flowers Sunglasses / Cole Haan Strappy Black Heels

It's such a surreal moment when that something you've been searching high and low for finally makes its way into your hands. Angels are singing sweetly in the background and you've hit an all time high. That's pretty much how I felt when I walked into H&M Waikiki about a week ago. These pants have been making a killing in the fashion world, and I love that baggy pants are all the rage. I've seen people wear it in so many different ways, but unfortunately for me (and my height), I can't throw them on with a pair of sneakers which would be so ideal. Thank God I have my trusty and most comfortable Cole Haan heels, that I paired with my version of Hawaii Spring layering. I tried to go for my ever so faithful tomboy-ish look, while including tiny hints of femininity with the striped bandeau and my strappy heels. ENJOY!

Faithfull the Brand Promenade Maxi also available at Mikinola in Koko Marina Shopping Center /  By Chari Diamond Necklace / Ray-Ban Round Metal Sunglasses

On Easter Sunday I was lucky enough to venture out to Wahiawa to visit the newly remodeled home of my aunt and uncle. They have an incredible view that literally takes your breath away, and I didn't want to leave! We had such a wonderful time shooting, cruising with the puppies and munching on dim sum.

Thank you to Mikinola for this beautiful Faithfull piece. It's a perfect bikini coverup, and I can't wait to take it with me to Fiji this year! I'm already ready for the count down!

T by Alexander Wang Black Circular Hole T-Shirt

Thank you Alexander Wang for creating such a dream basic. Any piece of clothing that is unique, basic, and super easy to throw on is gold to me. I notice that when I stumble upon things like that, I wear them over and over again until it's pretty much dead. Those are the things I'll always keep an eye out for!

Also, I've been injured twice in the past two weeks, so don't mind my taped up wrists and back that you'll probably be seeing in my next couple posts. Gotta get everything healed so I can get back to yoga ASAP!
